If you go to Paris make sure you take a visit to Merci.
Merci was created in March 2009 in the heart of the historic district of Haut-Marais. Bernard and Marie-France Cohen, founders of BONPOINT the children’s fashion label, realized that Paris lacked a place which would bring together the best of the world of fashion, of design, of household goods with welcome refreshment areas.
The store acts as a developer or launch-pad to the young designers who, thanks to this sounding-board, can make themselves known to the many customers from all over the world who visit Merci.
Merci is a commercial enterprise “like the others” founded by shareholders “not like the others”. The founders decided that the proceeds of this investment would serve to fund an endowment to pay for educational projects and development in south-west Madagascar.
If like us you love retail, you will love Merci. The store is constantly evolving with new product and displays generally based around a common theme. This January was all about fitness so the table tennis tables were filled with gym towels, books on trainers and running watches.
Wire shelving filled with skateboards, gym bags constructed from vintage sports strips and wooden bars reminiscent of the old school gym made for simple yet effective merchandising.
In among the Women’s fashion were two ballet barres with pointe shoes hanging over them and yoga apparel to make you want to do the downward facing dog. Converse hi tops had been given a revamp with pink ballet ribbon as laces.
The basement has a lovely little cafe and everything you could ever need for your kitchen. Well priced glass wear, plastic mixing bowls in an array of colours, kitchen knives, linens..I could be here all day, but you get the picture.
You can find Merci at 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais, Paris.
